PhD position at Immunoconcept, Université de Bordeaux - HORUS Project (European project – Horizon Europe)

The PhD student will be recruited at Immunoconcept laboratory to perform his/her PhD, starting in September 2024, on HORUS (Casting light on HOst-cytomegaloviRUs interaction in Solid organ transplantation) project. HORUS is funded by Horizon Europe and includes 24 partners from 7 European countries.

The main objective of this project is to improve our understanding of the "host-virus" relationship between cytomegalovirus (CMV) and solid organ transplant recipients (SOT) to discover signatures integrating viral, clinical and immunological characteristics associated with the control of the CMV.

HORUS includes the establishment and follow-up of the first European cohort of 450 patients with solid organ transplantation (SOT) to better understand i) how CMV is transmitted or reactivated after transplantation ii) to identify more likely to develop CMV infection and iii) to study how can the immune system, despite anti-rejection treatment, better control CMV.

Objectives

The main objective of this PhD position is to characterise γδ and αβ T cell responses to CMV, using ex vivo techniques in the European cohort of patients with SOT. Phenotyping PBMC of patients and analysing cytokines in serum, performing in-vitro culture with patients’ PBMC and infected cells with or without several immunosuppressive drugs.
